THE METSOVO AREA/NATURAL RESERVES

- Area protected by the NATURA network:
Metsovo region (Nilio-Katara) (GR2130006):
This is the natural border between North and South Pindos and also the main crossing from Epirus to Thessaly. It has an area of 7,328 hectares and belongs to the prefectures of Ioannina (80%) and Trikala (20%). The Ioannina portion includes the Metsovo-Anilios valley with the “Voulgaris” peak (1,883 meters).

Permanent Shelter for Animals of Prey Metsovo-Chrysovitsa-Grevenitis areas
Area: 300 hectares
Govt. Gazette N. 577/Β/91 and 643/Β/94.
Important species of fauna: Bears, wild goats, wild cats, wild boars, deer, royal eagles, golden eagles. black storks and more. Lynxes have been sighted here.
