POGONI / NATURAL BEAUTIES
The untouched beauty of Pogoni extends through Tsamandas, Nemertsika and Kassidiaris: quiet rivers, small plains, tall mountains, virgin forests full of oak trees, coneflowers, plane-trees and cornel-trees, an unusual wetland (the lake of Zaravina), a plain of particular natural beauty with a human presence from the 11th until the 4th century b.c. (valley of Gormos), gorges with rich flora and fauna. Pogoni means union: it offered Christianity Athenagoras, an Ecumenical Patriarch who was the founder of the reconciliation between the two churches.

The Valley of the River Gormos
Protected by the NATURA 2000 network as an area of particular natural beauty, the entire valley of Gormos has been characterized by the Ministry of Culture as an archeological site. The traces of houses and findings throughout the area are innumerable. The tombs in the Anemomilos region, close to the village Meropi, dating back to the 11th century B.C. are particularly interesting historically.

Lake Zaravina
On the road leading from Kalpaki to Delvinaki, among its various species, the picturesque lake Zaravina offers shelter to the otter, this particularly charming animal which is also used to make furs and is therefore an endangered species. A significant wetland and moist area, The lake is a significant area of wetlands and marshes and is protected by the NATURA 2000 network .

The Gorge of Kouvaras
A specially formed path close to the village Dolo, leads to the green gorge of Kouvaras, a tributary river of Drinos. A steep and deep gorge with rich Mediterranean and Para Mediterranean vegetation and rare species of fauna (bears have occasionally been observed in the area).

Delvinaki
70 km from Ioannina, the once significant commercial and cultural center, in a location of strategic importance, with its eminent expatriates, maintains its nobility and traditional architecture: churches, the naves old monasteries, public buildings, mansions and cobbled roads. Being the center of the International Part-Song Festival, it is equipped with a Library and an Art Gallery.
Vissani
An old saying has it that if you kiss a woman from Vissani, you become spellbound.
At a distance of 8 km from Delvinaki, Vissani with songs praising the beauty of its women, still retains the elements of its old prosperity untouched. the stone houses, the church of St. Nicholas built in the 18th century, the girls' school, the Greek School. Ali Pasha attended the school of Vissani, which was founded before 1770.
